ОАЕ

Otoacoustic emissions or otoacoustic test (OAE test) is an instrumental diagnostic method used to detect hearing impairment. The procedure allows you to obtain information about the functional state of the auditory analyzer.

INDICATIONS FOR OAE

  • the presence of heredity of hearing pathology;
  • screening of hearing function in children under one year of age;
  • comprehensive diagnosis of hearing impairment in children of any age;
  • control of hearing function in situations accompanied by a risk of its decline (for example, taking drugs with ototoxic effects);
  • monitoring the functional state of hearing after injuries;
  • identification of dysfunctions of the auditory analyzer;

HOW IS OTOACUSTIC EMISSION DONE?

Screening is carried out on modern equipment, and based on the results of the study, the program automatically produces a result – the test is passed or not. The examination is painless and does not require special preparation.

The otoacoustic emissions test is performed as prescribed by an otolaryngologist or audiologist. The device ensures sealing of the external auditory canal and the occurrence of a corresponding sound impulse. The device picks up the response noise using a powerful microphone.

During the examination, a probe connected to a device is inserted into the patient’s ear. The device is equipped with an insert that ensures sealing of the external auditory canal and the occurrence of a corresponding sound impulse. After inserting the probe, the doctor activates the device. Similar manipulations are carried out for the second ear.

The otoacoustic test takes about 2 minutes. The procedure does not cause any discomfort to the patient.
